Advantage Austria Manila in AFEX 2018
They say that the best way to learn about a country is through its food, and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve had the privilege of not only knowing Austria through its culture and people but, most importantly, through its food. Now, with the ASIA FOOD EXPO 2018 or AFEX 2018, more and more people have the chance of learning what Austrian food and beverage is all about.
Austria exports food and soft drinks to over 180 countries worldwide. Specialty products such as cheese, jams, cured meat products, chocolate confectionery, fruit juices, and iced teas. Here's a bit of trivia: Did you know that the famous Red Bull energy drink has its origins in Salzburg, Austria? Indeed, there are numerous but little known other products that are stamped with the Austrian seal of excellence. What weaves all these companies together is their drive to maintain the highest commitment to quality and sustainability. Austria has always upheld its choice to produce organic food, gourmet food items, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, I’ve known that even when I was living there myself. With the constant advancement of technology in the manufacture of these food and beverage products, we can only expect even better outcomes to come our way. This year, Advantage Austria participates in this year’s Asia Food Expo in Manila showcasing six innovative Austrian companies namely: BRUCHA, SalburgMilch, SOJA AUSTRIA, Sonnentor, VOXtrade, and Maresi.
Sonnentor
When I saw Sonnentor as one of the companies that Advantage Austria featured in its booth, I knew I had to mention it as the first company in this blog post. Call me biased, but I adore this company with the logo of the “Laughing Sun” that has made an impact on me since I was first introduced to it by my dear friend, Sigrid back in 2013. The concept behind it resonates in my belief on what a company should ultimately be; it coming from Austria is just like the cherry on top. Offhand, Sonnentor is known for its teas, herbs, spices and other foodstuffs that just makes everyone smile. I know I won’t do this company justice by merely mentioning a short caption on this here, so I’ve prepared an entire feature that I’ll write about in my next food post with a thorough description of one of its major stores in St. Pölten. Can’t wait to share that post with all of you!
Maresi
Vienna is world renowned for its coffee culture that has been passed on from one generation to the next. Ideally, one sits down during mid-afternoon in a café savoring their preferred coffee drink (either a Mélange or a Kleiner Brauner) with the accompaniment of a sweet and indulgent slice of cake, such as, but not limited to, the Sacher Torte. In today’s fast passed society where everyone is on the go, one does not always have the time nor the luxury to do the daily leisurely café stop. This, however, should not deprive one’s self in savoring the true Viennese coffee experience. This is where Maresi comes in. The Vienna Ice Coffee range combines the traditional Viennese Coffee Culture with a fresh coffee to go concept. They provide a smooth ready to drink coffee with cream and milk beverage. Vienna Ice Coffee is the creamiest Austrian ice coffee available making use of the best milk from the Austrian Alps and the perfect power-kick for those who want an extra energy boost in between those long days. Aside from their “classic” flavor, Maresi also offers coffee drinks without additional sugar, a lightly sweetened cappuccino with low-fat milk, pure black coffee, Vanilla Cream and lastly, a Cacao Drink, all in the convenient take-along cup. SOJA AUSTRIA
The Vegan diet or lifestyle has become quite popular in the recent years. To differentiate, a vegetarian is someone who does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or by-products of animal slaughter. The vegetarian diet is composed of various levels of fruits, vegetables, grains, pulses, nuts, and seeds. The inclusion of dairy and eggs depends on the type of diet one wishes to follow. A vegan, on the other hand, may be classified as the strictest form of vegetarianism. Therefore, a vegan diet not only excludes animal flesh, but also dairy, eggs, and animal-derived ingredients. One staple food in a vegan diet is soy and its by-products such as soy drink, soy yogurt, tofu and tempeh (meat alternative). SOJA AUSTRIA specializes in the distribution of Non-GMO soy products worldwide. As pioneers of the GMO-free soy products, they have earned a fixed place in the recipes of the most essential food producers in Europe, and are one of the largest producers of high-quality soy in the continent. SOJA AUSTRIA gives paramount importance to the certification of its products according to the strictest industry standards to guarantee the highest possible safety and satisfaction of its customers. BRUCHA
A welcome diversion to the mix of food and beverage list of companies exhibited by the Advantage Austria booth is BRUCHA, a family-owned company that caters to the need of customized cold storage construction across Europe. The company boasts of having a full range of roofs, doors, and gates fit for any space from high-rise warehouses to cold stores to deep-frozen stores that can be constructed to your liking. AFEX 2018 is a great way not only to update and educate those in the food and beverage industry on the latest and most significant innovations available not only in Austria and the Philippines, but all over the world. Now on its 27th year, the exposition also showcased food machinery and equipment, food processing, packaging and handling mechanisms available for the food and beverage industry today. After attending this show, and seeing how a particular food or beverage is being produced and the way it was packed, made me appreciate the entire process more -- the work the comes with it, scrutinizing every detail, as well as the time and energy it takes to put it all together. I know I'll never look at a store-bought food item or beverage the same way again.
